Eye Vitamins – Overview

If you wish to keep your eyes in great health for a longer period of time, resorting to eye vitamins is the best option. Eye vitamins prevent several diseases of the eye, and keep the eye sight in sound health.

In these fast food controlled times, it is not always possible to get the most nutritious food which will supply our body with the requisite vitamins everyday and that too in the needed proportions. The eye sight vitamins sold over the counters are generally not expensive and contain all or at least most of the vitamins and nutrients. The general doses usually range from 1 to 4 pills per day, but the amount may vary depending on the mineral and vitamin content in each pill. Most important thing to be noted is moderate amount of these eye vitamins are good for the eyes, but over dosage or too much of usage can cause side effects.

When buying one, it is important to compare the vitamin and mineral composition, labeled on the vitamin container. Usually these eye supplements contain vitamins A, B2, C, and E and some minerals like Selenium and Zinc.

Most of these eye vitamins also contain antioxidants like Lutein. But as the last word of caution goes, a certain amount of awareness should also be maintained before going for any kind of self medication and it is always advisable to consult the physician before using any vitamins for your eyes.
