Worried About Poor Eyesight? Three Vision Care Options For Adults

If you can’t see well, whether you’re nearsighted or farsighted, proper vision care is essential. People who don’t take the time to receive vision care can actually make their vision worse as the eyes need to strain and are constantly under stress as they try to focus. If you’re not seeing as well as you used to, pay a visit to an eye clinic and learn more about these three care plans for adults.

Visit An Optometrist For Glasses

Glasses are some of the most common ways to fix vision problems. They’re readily available, sometimes covered by insurance and are relatively inexpensive, especially if you wear the same frames for a few years. To determine whether you need glasses, pay a visit to an optometrist. An optometrist is a doctor of optometry and is licensed to diagnose and treat eye diseases, including correcting vision with glasses.

When you visit an eye clinic, the doctor will spend quite a bit of time with you to determine your prescription. You’ll have lenses of different strengths placed before your eyes. Once you have the prescription, you can choose some glasses. Oftentimes, the eye clinic will have employees specially trained in helping patients choose the right types of frames for your face shape. They’ll also work with your insurance company to maximize your insurance benefits to help you save money. Glasses are usually ready in about a week, but it may be possible to get them faster.

Visit An Optometrist For Contacts

Contacts are other tools people use to see better. If you’re interested in contacts, ask your optometrist for a separate contact exam. Your doctor will take measurements of your eye and fit you with the correct size, style and prescription of contact lenses. Contacts can take some getting used to, but most people report that they can’t even feel them the majority of the time. Most doctors will only write a contacts’ prescription for a year at a time, which means you’ll need to visit the optometrist every year for an updated prescription.

Visit A LASIK Eye Clinic

Glasses and contacts are ideal ways to see, but if you’re looking for a permanent solution, consider visiting a LASIK eye clinic. LASIK is a method that surgically corrects vision permanently. LASIK needs to be done by a different type of doctor, called a refractive surgeon. The surgeon will perform a battery of tests to determine whether you’re a candidate. If you are, you’ll have flap cut into the cornea, with a blade or a laser, and then the cornea will be reshaped to refocus the light that enters the eye. Many people report that they can see the next day and have little pain. However, unlike glasses or contacts, insurance typically doesn’t cover any of this procedure and it can be quite pricy.

If your eyesight isn’t what it used to be, make an appointment to visit an eye clinic and talk with your optometrist about your options. The choice to use glasses, contacts or LASIK to correct your vision is a personal one so what’s right for you might not be right for your friends or loved ones.
