Mr Van Es has written an excellent book on the causes and treatments for GERD or “acid reflux disease.” He provides a clear and straightforward tour of the many origins of this syndrome along with a variety of paths for prevention and treatment. I appreciate his world view on this subject, in that while he is a proponent of improved diet and exercise as a way to cope with this disease, he also lists and defines the current pharmaceutical choices you may use alone or with the more organic treatments. This book will provide the reader with a number of topics for discussion with their healthprovider, including symptoms, testing procedures, and possible outcomes. As a long-time sufferer of GERD, it was nice to have a reference book with this much information. I look forward trying some of his suggestions.

Great info! This book is very easy to read and covers everything from symptoms to treatments. This book is very well written and uses correct grammar, which is a relief from some of other books I have read. I learned some new things about GERD that I never knew before. This book is a great reference for anyone who suffers from GERD.

I Highly recommend this book for anyone who suffers from GERD or who is looking for more information on the subject!

Finally a comprehensive discussion of this condition written with admirable clarity. My son and I have spent a lot of time researching this condition to find the best way to manage and prevent its symptoms. We have found ideas here about food, there about drugs, as well alternative therapies on many sites all professing to have the whole story and a simple solution.

VanEs carefully and fully covers all aspects. He talks about the positives and negatives of different approaches without bias. In particular he gives a good explanation of why things that can provide short term symptomatic relief can have long term negatives. Doctors should read this part particularly!

How and what to eat are seen as the most positive of approaches with no real side effects. I gained some new ideas from the recipes, ideas I and my son can use and build on since they are more about substitutions in recipes we love rather than draconian diet meals.

I knew exercise helped, but VanEs’ explanation as to why exercise helps not only helps with obesity but also in making the digestive system function better, showed me why.

My son’s doctor says this is one of the most under-diagnosed conditions today. Hopefully he will read this book and recommend it to his patients.
